SAV - logoInstitute of social sciences of Slovak Academy of Sciences (ISS SAS) in Košice was founded in year 1975 with the aim to research political, social, economical and cultural processes of Eastern Slovakia after year 1945. Institute gradually acquired a feature of multi-disciplinary institution devoted to scientific research of social and psychological people and social processes as well as a research of contemporary history of Slovakia. The institute is divided to two research departments – a department of history and department of social psychology. Research projects are oriented primarily upon the probe of status and development of ethnic minorities and upon the interdisciplinary research of macro-social phenomena, social and ethnic identity. Several project are solved on the base of direct cooperation with the partner institutions abroad, namely in Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, but also in great Britain and Canada. During the later years members of Institute participate also on solving of an international project of European Social Survey (ESS). Since year 1998 ISS SAS is publishing an international internet magazine Človek a spoločnosť (A Man and Society) – ().
