Dickens Fellowship

Charles Dickens

Is Charles Dickens better known around the world than William Shakespeare? Does it really matter anyway?

They've both made such a huge impact, not just with their original works, but with all the spin-off films and television series, there can hardly be a literate person on the planet who hasn't heard of them both.

The only difference for us is that Charles Dickens was born here in Portsmouth, even though his family moved away before he was really old enough to dip a pen nib in an inkwell - the important thing is, he came from the same place we do!

His birth place is in Old Commercial Road, but all the details you need are in the Dickens Fellowship web site. The Fellowship actually has branches all over the world, not just in this country.
