Blue & Gold Poison Arrow Frog

Dendrobates tinctorius

The bright colours of this frog warn predators that it is poisonous. Eggs are laid on a leaf and the tadpoles wriggle onto the back of one of the parents as soon as they hatch. To increase their survival chances, each tadpole is raised alone in a small pool in the centre of a bromeliad plant and is fed by the female on unfertilised eggs.
