LITA - logoEstablished in 1993, the LITA Society of Authors has since operated as a civil association registered with the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic of the Slovak Republic and on the basis of Agreements on Representation. It currently associates more than 1,800 authors (writers, scriptwriters, directors, cartoonists, choreographers, translators, visual authors and photographers, architects and authors of works of applied art). Rules of its operation are set in the Statutes of LITA, which are approved by the General Assembly of its members.

LITA issues licensing agreements which contain authorisations for utilisation of works and collects royalties and remuneration for such utilisation. All collected money is distributed to the represented authors according to the Distribution Rules approved by the General Assembly.

In compliance with the Slovak Copyright Act 618/2003 the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Slovak Republic of the Slovak Republic granted to LITA the licence for both compulsory and voluntary collective management of rights.

LITA is entitled to make deduction from collected royalties and remuneration to cover its administration costs connected with the collective management of rights (ie granting of licences, collecting of royalties and remuneration, administration of documentation on utilisation of works, distribution of collected royalties and remuneration to the rights holders, enforcement of income from unjustified enrichment, advisory service for the members). The amount of the deduction is determined by the Board of LITA.

LITA manages the rights of thousands of foreign authors in Slovakia on the basis of agreements with societies of authors from around the world.

LITA is member of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC).
